Changing Products Means Re-adjusting the Detector? Changeover and Verification for High-Mix Lines
High-mix, low-volume lines may change products several times a day. Changeover is not just editing a parameter: product effect, packaging, orientation and belt speed can all change, so the previous phase and sensitivity settings may no longer apply. Split changeover into confirming product and packaging, adjusting settings, verifying with test pieces, and recording the result, with clear responsibility for execution and review.
Test pieces should cover ferrous, non-ferrous and stainless steel, with sizes and positions based on internal or customer standards. Products containing moisture, salt or aluminium foil show stronger product effect; run product learning or phase compensation first, then confirm the smallest detectable size with test pieces. Record product name, batch, test piece size, pass position and conclusion for traceability.
For frequent changeovers, store common product settings as recipes to cut repeated adjustment time, and post a changeover checklist beside the machine covering belt cleanliness, rejector action and alarm function. Never skip first-piece verification after changeover; if sensitivity is insufficient, check product effect and orientation before loosening parameters to pass the check.
